Developed in Manitoba in 1960, Boyne remains Alberta’s most widely planted raspberry variety, loved for its exceptional winter hardiness, vigorous canes, and dependable yields. This early to mid-season variety produces medium-sized, dark red berries that are tender, juicy, and pleasantly sweet, perfect for fresh eating, freezing, or jam-making. The canes are strong and sturdy, with excellent cold tolerance and consistent production even after harsh winters. Boyne performs especially well in prairie climates, thriving in well-drained soils and full sun. Please note: Boyne is susceptible to fire blight and should not be planted near apple, pear, or Saskatoon trees, which can host the same disease.
