The Alberta Farm Fresh Producers Association extends its heartfelt condolences to Heather Halwa and the Halwa family on the passing of Jason.

As Heather balances her full-time work as a nurse while stepping into the day-to-day realities of Country Roads RV Park, she spoke with care about the life Jason built and the legacy he leaves behind. She also shared her intention to continue that legacy, honouring what Jason and his family worked so hard to create.

Jason was most at home in the orchard.

At Country Roads RV Park in Grande Prairie, the orchard became more than a place to grow fruit. It became a space for connection, to the land and to people. Strawberries, raspberries, saskatoons, and other crops were grown not just to be harvested, but to be shared. Through U-pick experiences and small-batch local wines made from fruit grown on site, Jason created opportunities for people to slow down, buy local, and spend time together.

Heather shared that what Jason loved most wasn’t only agriculture itself, but what it made possible. Food, shared spaces, and simple moments brought people together, and that mattered deeply to him.

Country Roads RV Park is a family legacy, started by Jason’s father more than 25 years ago. Jason later returned from Calgary to continue that work alongside his brother Aaron. Stewardship mattered to Jason. He cared about preserving the park’s roots and ensuring it would remain welcoming for generations to come, a commitment Heather is now carrying forward.

Those who knew Jason often speak first of his generosity. Heather described him as kind-hearted and community-minded, someone guided by kindness and a genuine care for others. He was also a quiet pioneer, among the first in the Grande Prairie area to produce local wines from fruit grown in his own orchard, driven not by recognition but by a desire to create something meaningful and local.

If there is one thing Heather hopes people remember, it is this: Jason loved people. As Heather continues the work at Country Roads RV Park, she does so with that same spirit at its centre. Members of the AFFPA community who wish to extend their condolences to the Halwa family are welcome to do so by email at hhalwa1973@yahoo.ca.

AFFPA holds Heather and the Halwa family in our thoughts and thanks them for allowing us to honour Jason’s life and the legacy of Country Roads RV Park.
