Young Farmer of the Year Award

The Young Farmer of the Year Award honours an emerging leader under the age of 35 in Alberta’s direct farm marketing and agritourism sector whose passion, innovation, and commitment are shaping the future of farming in our province. This award recognizes a young producer who demonstrates exceptional skill in farm management, environmental stewardship, community engagement, and forward-thinking approaches to building a resilient agricultural landscape. Alberta’s young farmers are the backbone of a thriving local food system. They bring fresh ideas, adopt new technologies, and champion sustainable practices that strengthen rural communities and ensure long-term food security. The Young Farmer of the Year exemplifies this spirit of innovation and resilience.

– Shows innovation and forward-thinking approaches to building a resilient and sustainable farm business
– Practices responsible environmental stewardship and integrates sustainability into day-to-day operations
– Actively engages with their community through education, collaboration, or local partnerships
– Contributes to the long-term strength of Alberta’s food system through passion, adaptability, and commitment to agriculture

How nominations are evaluated

Nominations are reviewed by a selection committee using a structured scoring process. Judges evaluate each nomination across five areas that reflect excellence in agritourism, farming practices, business development, sustainability, and community leadership.

Each category is considered carefully, with the goal of recognizing farms that balance strong operations with meaningful visitor experiences and long-term impact.
